What racing doesn’t want you to see

Over the last year Taranaki Animal Save & Coalition for the Protection of Racehorses have bore witness at local horse races in New Zealand.

During that time we’ve documented plenty of aspects of horse racing the industry would rather the public not see.

There’s a reason the 10 minutes prior to a race are not broadcast.
Being forced into an enclosed space, such as the starting gates, goes against all a horse’s natural instincts – it’s something they must be ‘trained’ to do – often through fear and violence.
