Untrashing Anindilyakwa

Recently our Sea Shepherd Australia – Marine Debris Campaign team embarked on a remote clean-up mission to Anindilyakwa, a remote island in the Groote archipelago.

Anindilyakwa is known for its pristine natural and marine environment and is home to the largest hawksbill and green sea turtle rookeries in the Northern Territory.

Despite its location, it is still sadly affected by the ongoing problem of plastic pollution.

Our team of seven volunteers travelled to the island to join the Anindilyakwa Land and Sea Rangers in the vital work they do in removing plastic waste from their coastline and cultural lands.

Over the course of a week, our teams removed a staggering 4 tonnes of debris, with a shocking 93.6% of all items made from plastic.
