Princess deserved better. A dairy farmer left her pneumonia untreated for 3-5 months, leaving 80% of her lungs full of pus. Animal Place staff and volunteers rescued her from an auction, rushed her to UC Davis, and held her as she was humanely euthanized…all this suffering for a glass of milk.

Every day, dairy farmers dump unwanted calves at the auction, where they are sold for veal, as replacements for slaughtered adult “dairy” cows, and eventual slaughter. Drop calves (less than a week old) are sold for $5-20 each, most are unwanted males.
