In early 2023, our team of investigators installed cameras inside Victoria’s largest pig slaughterhouse.

The majority of pigs in Australia are killed inside carbon dioxide gas chambers. The process involves exposing a pig to high concentrations of CO2 gas until they are rendered unconscious before their throats are then slit.

Diamond Valley Pork, located in Laverton accounts for roughly 20% of the national total, with up to 1 million pigs per year sent into its enormous chamber.

This is the story behind our hidden camera investigation into just one of the Australian pork industry’s gas chambers…
